Magnitude 4.3 quake rattles Illinois northwest of Chicago

An magnitude 4.3 earthquake  struck Illinois early today about 48 miles west northwest of Chicago, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.

There were no immediate reports of injury or damage from the quake, which hit around 5 a.m. ET.

Update at 7:58 a.m. ET: CNN says one resident of Belvidere, Ill., about 70 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, reported a foot-long crack in his kitchen wall from the quake
