This is Robillard’s second nomination for a Grammy Award. He received a nomination for “Guitar Groove-A-Rama” in 2007.
Duke Robillard hails from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He’s been in the music business for some time. He co-founded the Rhode Island band, Roomful of Blues with pianist Al Copley in 1967. He has also been a member of the The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Robillard has received many awards and nominations in his music career including:
2007 Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts
2001 “Best Blues Guitarist” W.C. Handy Award
2000 “Best Blues Guitarist” W.C. Handy Award
2007 “Best Contemporary Blues Album” for “Guitar Groove-A-Rama” Grammy Award Nomination
2010 “Best Traditional Blues Album” for “Stomp! The Blues Tonight” Grammy Award Nomination
If you want to see Duke Robillard locally, the prolific guitarist is playing at a thriving business in Rhode Island: Chan’s, in Woonsocket. He’ll be playing on Friday, February 5, 2010 to celebrate the release of “Tales From the Tiki Lounge,” a tribute to the music of Les Paul and Mary Ford that he recorded with singer Sunny Crownove. Perhaps he’ll be celebrating a Grammy, too!
The 52nd Grammy Awards show will begin at 8pm EST on CBS on Sunday night, January 31, 2010.
